What do you think about truck drivers?

My boyfriend of 2 years is a truck driver. He is just about to turn 23. For the past 2 years I have been traveling with him, it has been an experience that I will never forget. I feel blessed because I have seen more then what an average person wouldn't even see in a life time. There are a lot of stereotypes about truck drivers (which I think causes people to somewhat disrespect them), and I just want people to notice that truck drivers are what makes the world keep moving... think about it. How does the food you buy get into the grocery stores, how do the construction workers get the materials to build the roads you drive on, the house you live in? The clothes on your back, the furniture in your house? If truck drivers were to go on strike how would you get your food? I’ve even seen a flatbed hauling roller coaster parts, even the Thomas the tank engine train. I'm not going to lie there’s a lot of dirty, smelly, perverted truck drivers out there (I'm proud to say me and my boyfriend aren't one of them). But can you blame them for being overweight when they sit all day long driving 14 hours 500+ miles a day? When they aren't getting nutritional home cooked meals for 5 or 6 weeks straight? Would you shower everyday having to pay $10 per shower? That $310 a month spent just to shower. Truck drivers are the hardest working people I know. They get no weekends off, they work 14 hours a day for about 40 days straight. They are out on the road for 5-6 weeks at a time without seeing any familiar faces. They risk there lives everyday by driving fatigued, and battling weather. Just the other  day in Arkansas a tornado dropped down on the interstate just a few yards ahead of his truck, the only thing that kept him on the ground and from tipping was 79,000 pounds of hot cocoa mix. Thank you truckers for all that you do!

Thanks for giving us some space. We've almost hit too many cars because they slam on there breaks in front of us. It's so hard to stop when you have so much weight pushing you from behind.

Once I sat next to a concrete-truck driver in a bar, and listened to him talk about it. He didn't like all the little cars whipping around him all the time and failing to recognize the danger. He said, "Do they think I can just stop on a dime?"-Personally, when I drive, I try to give the big trucks some space and consideration. It's safer for everyone that way.

I personally don't have a problem with truck drivers. My best friend's Dad is a truck driver. Unfortunately, it only takes one bad trucker to ruin it for everyone.

When something bad happens on the road who is usually the first to help? You know it. I met Jimmy Hoffa once, he said "if you're ever in trouble kid, flag down a truck, when you grow up; join a union." Then he winked at me. He was just passing by and noticed me waiting nearby.

How cute! My boyfriend has to honk everytime a person does that. He likes seeing little kids faces light up, even to the teens to make them feel cool.  We  always get a kick out of it.

When I was a kid, my sister and I would pump our arms when we saw trucks, and truck drivers would blow their horns.  It always gave me the impression that they were good natured people.  That's probably why I still like truckers today, and might have chosen it as a career if my life had gone slightly differently.
