I understand why they decided to change it up. Change is good, and a favicon is a fun thing to see refreshed, but the boring blue choice... it's weird.
I don't get it: they had the colorful letters design language following them since the nineties. Everyone knows Google as the big colorful 'G'. Why go and mess with it? Why change such a brand asset? Seems to me that they're starting to lose touch with their original core identity. It's sad, but that's what happens when a company grows.
