You can eat creamed chicken that way. My little brother once broke his jaw so badly that he had to eat everything through a straw for months. His face was all wired shut and all, and we found that you can put just about anything in a blender and eat it through a straw.
I think that you need to "learn to learn" by a certain age. Once you've stretched your minds in a certain direction, I think you're able to learn things "like that" much later in life. Seems like I've read research about feral children that indicated that at 13 years of age, the parts of your brain that are active are the only parts that will ever be active.
