Politicans have the power to control religion. In fact, there is plenty of evidence that mass religion was created by governments, for obvious reasons.They have the power and money to combat environmental issues, find alternative sources of fuel to crude oils, to combat world hunger and wars.The fact is politicians are human and most of them are self-serving. They will not put their neck on the line if they will not benefit from it, or face opposition from the mass public. Boo Hiss
In a specific sense, the hip hop / rap / urban gangster mentality is really screwing the world up. Crime and victimization are horrible values that the population widely seems to be tolerant of, for some reason.In a more general sense, we are developing a culture of self-indulgence. Maybe entertainment is so cheap and easy that people just can't justify spending their time and effort learning things or trying things or doing things anymore. It can't be good for our society, when a tiny fraction of the population has skills, and the rest just want to sit around, smoke pot, and watch the tube.
Reverse meritocracy. Our society today rewards those who have the most inability to see things from any other point of view but their own. The most self-serving and immature worldview brings the most success. You could call it "Survival of The Weakest."
