Court: Texas had no right to take polygamists' kids

SAN ANGELO, Texas - An appeals court has ruled that Texas had no right to seize hundreds of children from polygamous sect.  Half the mothers from a polygamist sect that Texas child welfare authorities put in foster care as children have now been declared adults. Attorneys for Child Protective Services say 15 of the 31 mothers are adults. One is actually 27. Another girl listed as an underage mother is 14, but the state has conceded she is not pregnant and does not have a child. The underage mothers had been cited as evidence that the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints committed widespread sexual abuse of girls. State officials raided a ranch run by a polygamist sect in west Texas. Their contention that abuse was widespread led to the removal of more than 460 children.

they were holding 18 and 22 year old women hostage telling them they looked young. The CPS officials should be prosecuted

I smell a lawsuit in the air . . . Major class-action civil rights violation by a State Agency?

Nice job on taking away their support system. Go CPS! I may not agree with polygamy, but at least some were underage mothers that were taken care of.

I am an atheist and believe that the State of Texas and their "so called" Child Protective Services were not only wrong they were obscenely wrong.  The head of CPS should quit and never work in the field again.

CPS should be abolished. They are the most worthless government agency yet. They either underperform and children die under their watch, or they go completely nuts out-of-control and inappropriately take kids away. Basically, they ruin lives and all they really seem to care about is covering their behinds by hiding behind privacy laws. This case is one of the most egregious yet. Why didn't they just arrest the men, and "process" the women and children at the compound?  They've now traumatized these children and exposed them to all sorts of dangers that run rampant in the foster care system - famous for all sorts of abuse. Something needs to be done to reign CPS in and hold them accountable for their crimes.

It appears that the court has ruled that the children are NOT in danger, and CPS has not been able to provide any proof that any child was in danger.

the children and young women are in danger....no young girl should be forced to marry an old man and be forced to have his child before she is of legal age to make the choice for herself...

It's about time for the Court to say that Child Protective Services did not have the right to remove the children from the compound.  Innocent until proven guilty - not just rounding up a whole community and tramatizing alll of the children.
