I've never done it, and I don't know that I ever would, but... really young kids will sometimes actively run away from you when they think you're not paying attention.
I used to think this was so weird until I had my own child and I realized why people do it. I have never done it, but I've given it serious thought! LOL My son thinks it is fun to hide in the clothing racks. I hate that!!

That too! Though, honestly, I think wandering off and traffic are more common threats.
It also helps prevent the pervs from kidknapping the little kids.
