Dog Carpets

Art duo Brody and paetau use real dog corpses to demonstrate against the practice of turning animals into rug.

"The dog carpets are essentially about society’s hypocrisy. It questions the special status that dogs and cats have in our, western society. It’s about the tradition of producing carpets with wild animals as a hunting fetish. But in this case we were using an inappropriate animal, a pet - and like this we wanted to question the values behind this tradition", Brody and paetau explaining their work

I agree it's disgusting and disturbing.I think one would have to be pretty desensitized to think of it as "art"

They did not kill the dogs for this. The dogs were already killed at the shelter along with 100's of others.  I have no problem with him trying to do something his conscience leads him to do. At least he's trying to make those poor dogs deaths serve a noble purpopse. I think it may transcend rugs and applies itself to the use of animal skins in other things. If it plants a seed in the mind in this way it may grow in the viewer as time passes. Disgusting but also noble.

Dog carpets = stuffed game = leather purses, et al. You can dress animal slaughter in any rhetoric you want, but it's essentially all the same.

This is seriously one of the most disturbing things I have seen.  They executed these animals for the purpose of this "art."  I think they should be executed.

I don't see this as a noble cause.  It's a fringe culture that uses animal-skin rugs, and I don't imagine that most people approve of the practice.  That being the case, this "art" accomplishes little or (probably) nothing, but is disgusting and disturbing.
