Of course they have the right. Its the moral that I dont agree with, a child should be given all possible advantages. However my cousin is deaf and he gets along wonderfully so Im sure the child even with the disability would be fine. Its not like the parents want the child to have a miserable life so im sure it would be okay.
The question is euphemistically worded. They are examining many embryos and genetically screening them for deaf genes... selecting a defective embryo and discarding healthy ones.
I voted the way I did because the embyro was already deaf. Should parents have the right to "engineer a child?" No, not in my opinion. But this child would be born deaf anyway, so being born to deaf parents seems okay to me, from the child's point of view. Deaf parents might be better at teaching and raising a deaf child.
