I've seen several living in Arizona, including coming across a couple in a wash face to face when I was in middle school, but they never did any harm to me. I have seen them carrying what were once outside cats in their mouths though. A pack of Javelinas is scarier
They go where the food is, but from what I have seen they are easily scared off. Not that I would walk up to one and try to pet it.
if there is more than one, then yes adults are in danger...
