Around the turn of the previous century (1900), people consumed an average 5 lbs of refined sugar per year.  The most recent studies show that Americans now consume about 135 lbs of refined sugar per year, which is 28% more than we were ingesting in 1983.  There are supposedly many health risks associated with the over-consumption of sugar, and it is reasonable to imagine that ADD and ADHD are related to these statistics.

Yesh....I see that you have extensive knowledge on the subject and I agree with your opinion. I personally think children have become more destructive. I wonder though....why kids are so much more hyper than say 30 year ago. Maybe it wasn't reported, or has our societies attempt at making children sit still for several hours a day over the last 100 years finally come to this. Could it be what's on TV, our fast paced society, a lack of an outlet. So many questions???? Too few answers...how emo is that?

I watch Dr. Who and he knows everything. I should ask him.

I think it is related to the mercury preservative used in chilhood immunizations.  Autism, too.  Perhaps some children have a genetic predispostion to ADD and Autism and the mercury acts as a catilist. . .  ?  FYI:  I'm not a doctor and I don't even play one on TV, but I do watch a lot of tv.

actually opinions vary on this topic....i believe it is an actual chemical imbalance in the brain...and unlike other opinions, it does not just go away as the child ages into those rebelous years...nor when they become adults...some find ways to be constructive and use their hyperactivity to better themselves...then there are some that end up in jail due tolack of diagnosis...i could go on and on about this topic....just know NO two are the same when dealing with this disorder...can you tell i have studied this to a point?
