It is a diamond. The light from the flash just blurred it up. I'm no heathen. I wouldn't wear fake jewelry. I might internally combust or something

My girlfriend got her nose pierced a couple months ago, was a bit of a shocker to me, but it's something she has wanted for a while and makes her happy, so I'm fine with it.  It's your body, do what you want with it

Hey Drowlord, my opinion on this is a case of self expression.  Body modification is considered art in many circles and is thusly called "body art" and I wouldn't think, as such, it would be limited to a certain age group. On the other hand, if the person is doing it to simply grasp at straws or follow the latest trend, then I would have a problem with that.  While I personally admire the work on other people, I know for myself that it just would not be me.  Therefore, I have never done any rash, faddish thing (and in most cases unalterable) to my body, knowing I would regret it later.  i.e. I think that doing something like this (though a nose peircing is surely one of the more tame modications out there) is a serious decision and should be looked at as such.

I see where you are going with this but you are mistaken in this case. I had this piercing in high school. It's not about identity building. I took it out and spent years conforming to the cookie cutter ideal to get ahead. Now I am confortable with myself and where I am in my life. I just feel no need to look like someone I am not anymore. The real me has a few delicate piercings and several tattoos she doen't think she has to carefully conceal anymore. It isn't any different than your long hair or bold clothing Drowlord. I have spent years wearing conservative clothing, republican hair and carefully buffed nails and the whole time felt like a fraud. Like everyone could tell how scruffy I was on the inside. This isn't about identity building. It's about self acceptance.

I kinda get it when kids do it.  I mean... the vast majority of people who come out of high school are just cookie-cutter reflections of every other kid.  Young people are grasping at straws for some kind of individuality -- music, style, personality, etc... But surely at some point, you don't need rebellious (and artificial) affectations to build your identity on.

No I think the guest is right, Gigs ego is one of a healthy individual, who is happy with and within themselves.  Therefore, her BIG EGO makes her more beautiful than she would be with say the ego of the person who  wrote the comment.  One who seeks to makes others feel small in order to make themselves feel important.  That's a person with a SMALL EGO whose inner turmoil and unhappiness with self has been put on display here for all to see with their very own words.  Oh, but the OLD part, well OLD is relative and to me she is ageless.

I suppose my huge ego has to make up for your low self esteem. Why else would you go around trying to bring happy people down while you hide your face? I feel sorry for you. I'm not vain. If I was I certainly wouldn't post photos on the internet with gray roots and no makeup. I'm just outgoing and happy to be alive and I apologize if you can't take that from me. I hope you find some joy in your life so you don't have to spend the rest of it cutting other people down to feel good.

A very large percentage of Indian women have them. It's a part of their culture. I don't know what the big deal is.
