Students and staff turn their backs while Phyllis Schlafly receives an honorary degree at Washington University
Yesterday, as Phyllis Schlafly (83) received an honorary degree from Washington University in St. Louis, hundredes of students and faculty wore white ribbons and turned their backs to the ceremony as a form of silent protest.
Schlafly is a conservative political activist known for her opposition to feminism and the Equal Rights Amendment. source, source

Hear, hear!
I am against honorary degrees - I have seen them used as a way to get financial backing and publicity - it disrespects those who work hard for theirs!
happens all the time. Real graduates need to be real grownups and act like it.
More disrespectful to invite such a divisive figure to the graduation of students getting actual, earned degrees.
