I don't think that media violence will decouple a normal, stable, healthy human being. It's the "people on the fringe" who are susceptible to these types of media influences. People who aren't very intelligent, or people with emotional troubled, or maybe people with some kind of chemical disorder... They obsess about things they see and hear. It's a miniscule percentage of the population. But it only takes a few videogame- trained mass murdering psychos in the country every year or two to make the issue tangible.
Wow guys thanks for voting, my personal opinion is that there is a non-causal link between violent media and violent behavior. At first glance it seems that violent media increases violent behaviour but there are too many people who watch forms of violence on television that live absolutely normal lives. When tragedies like Columbine and Virginia Tech occur, people are always looking for an explanation as to why someone would do something so horrendous. I personally don't feel violent media is the force behind violent people, it may give them creative new ways to be violent but in my opinion, a violent person will not be put off violence when faced with no violent media
I've played video games my entire life. I've seen murder, rape, etc on tv and many times in video games, but I don't live that life. The difference is I can rationalize between fiction (the media, video games, etc) and real life, so I know what is real and what is not.
Kids grow up seeing murder, rape and worst so much that it becomes as normal behavior, and now we have Columbine, Virginia Tech and others. If you don't think its bad then you missed the efforts to allow college students to carry guns on campus. Children learn what they live, then they live what they have learned.

Yes, but does the media make you WANT to have sex with random people...?

Yes, just like wanton sex depicted in media makes me have sex with random people. Oh no wait, that doesn't happen....
Good poll!
