An ex-friend of mine once said that "making someone feel special" was my most refined (and disingenuous) skill. I've had countless people "open up to me" and tell me their thoughts on a huge variety of subjects. It astonishes me how many people either think the exact same as other people, or have copied other people's ideas. But I rarely hear anything original (or at least new), even though a lot of people seem to genuinely think that they're the first to ever think a particular thought.
Most people want to feel and think like they're supposed to. That isn't always easy to do. Original thought is a hinderance to participating properly in most societal roles. Certainly my own.
I believe that a person (in general) is capable of original thought and intelligent ideas, but the sheer and utter stupidity of people in mass cancels that out.

We have a guy at my work that can take anyone else's idea and propose it as his own. Annoying!!
