People may not have paid attention to made for TV movies ten years ago but that's changed. I fear there will come a time when I want to rent Andromeda Strain and the only version available will have Benjamin-fucking-Bratt in it.
A&E's "Andromeda Strain" is a TV production. It's not technically a "movie" in the traditional sense. No one pays attention to made for TV movies anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it. lol
Plus The Wiz is terrible despite the fact that it has two of my favorite people in it (Diana and Michael); it works so much better as a stage production. And thus I pretend the movie version doesn't exist. Also, if we're going to talk about Return to Oz... how unexpected is it that it's a Disney movie? And why was I not more scared of that movie as a child?
Yeah but it's so far out of left field and doesn't make much of an attempt on the movie (okay, ruby slippers). Or maybe it's just that is was soooooo cheesy that I can't think of it in that way.
Tarantino was signed back in 2006 to re-make "Citizen Kane". I'm not sure how far along that project is. There's already a few re-makes of "The Wizard of Oz" floating around. Re-makes are inevitabe.
If they remake GwtW, they'll probably chop it down to 1 1/2 hours!

That's not a remake. It's a sequel. Like Return to Oz.
"The Wiz" does claim to be an adaptation based on the book by Baum or at least that's how it was promoted.
There was Sci-fi channel's big bust "Tin Man". lol
There's always Woody Allen's "Play It Again Sam". Just kidding.
I thought about The Wiz but it doesn't claim to be The Wizard of Oz.Remaking Citizen Kane is a crime!

Kirsten Dunst as Ilsa opposite Johnny Depp as Rick, Orlando Bloom as Victor.
