While he was imprisoned, Carol was in an auto wreck (1969), thrown through her car's windshield and left seriously injured. Despite her injures, she refused to allow her POW husband to be notified about her condition, fearing that such news would not be good for him while he was being held prisoner.
When McCain returned to the United States in 1973 after more than five years as a prisoner of war, he found his wife was a different person. The accident "left her 4 inches shorter and on crutches, and she had gained a good deal of weight."
In 1979 at a military reception in Honolulu, McCain met Cindy Hensley, an attractive 25-year-old woman from a very wealthy politically-connected Arizona family. Cindy's father, Jim, founded the Hensley and Company, the nation's third-largest Anheuser-Busch distributor.
While still married to Carol, McCain began an adulterous relationship with Cindy. He married Cindy in May 1980 -- just a month after dumping Carol and securing a divorce. The newlyweds honeymooned in Hawaii.
McCain followed his young, millionairess wife back to Arizona where her father helped catapult McCain into politics.
It seems that McCain, who had once revealed to fellow prisoners of war in Vietnam that he wanted to be president, was restless in 1979. As Navy liaison to the Senate, he didn't have the career momentum he had counted on to propel him into an admiralty and on to the White House. He was 42, mired in stifling ordinariness. (Civilians call it "midlife crisis.")
But McCain was making bold career moves on the home front. McCain's strategy worked perfectly: After marrying Cindy Hensley - Bingo! McCain was a candidate for Congress by early 1982, his coffers full, his home in the proper Arizona district purchased.
The story is compelling -- and repellent -- for a lot of reasons. And it raises some familiar questions. We have to wonder why Americans are able to excoriate a presidential candidate (or president) who cheats on his wife but accept one who did the same thing with the concentration and energy of a military strategist. Is it because McCain didn't get caught? Is it because he married his mistress?
Today, Cindy Hensley McCain is chairwoman of Hensley's board of directors. Hensley and Company financial reports show assets worth a minimum of $28 million for the McCains
McCain heard by three reporters during the 1992 senate run, bursting at his wife after she "playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." yelling at her and saying "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt."
because it's not really true. The maccains had been seperated more than once and were when he met cindy.They had relationship ending problems before Cindy came along. Even Mccains children side with him. Myself being someone who left a very unhappy marriage to very quickly enter a very happy one, I can say I relate to this. I got the same type of bullshit and questions. As if it is anyone elses business. He shouldn't have to stay with one woman he was desperately unhappy with just because she was crippled. Everyone desrves to be happy. And yes, it DOES matter that he married her and I would never presume to know someones motives or heart. I didn't do it with Bill Clinton. I won't do it here.

Now ladies, remember the conspiracy. One dead Israeli Prime Minister, one blown up but not dead and resigned, Bill and Hillary along with J. C. (Jimmy Carter) pushing Israel for a free Pallestine, and then along comes Monica. Who's father had ties to Right-wing Jewish conservatives wanting to kill all Pallestinians. Dr. Lewinsky also was a personal friend of Ken Starr and Linda Tripp both Jewish. Newsweek broke this story and showed a connection between everybody. I mean really, the President, most girls would want to make a good impression so they would have not dribbled onto their dress and besides who could resist that voluptuous body and those pouting lips?
Even if there were no pictures, I would have voted the same way.
