Same-sex marriage has led us to this type of marriage, because when marriage is redefined, the concept of limiting it to just two people, which morally speaking is one man and one woman, is no longer considered constitutionally relevant in the eyes of the courts or civil liberties groups like the ACLU. And sooner or later a state Supreme Court will declare the ban on polygamy unconstitutional, thus threatening the safety of women and children. In another insane twist, some man will win his right to 'marry his dog'.

i think the issue is the fact that 14 year old girls are marrying old men. we're told it's a "choice." they're brainwashed that way and told they're going to hell if they don't. that's terrible. young girls should be flirting with the cute boys they go to school with. not married off to men older than their fathers. i'm fine with the fact that they have a certain religion. but have you heard they don't celebrate any religious holidays and they don't know anything about christ? come on. religion is a cover to be perverted and rape little girls

I don't get it, are we talking about marriages between more than one person or marriages between an older person and a far too younger one? Sort of confusing about what EXACTLY people are concerned about.

and oops! come to find out the "16 year old girl" DIDN'T EXIST. She's a psychologically  impaired 33 year old black woman in Colorada. http://www.myfoxcolorado.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=6344778&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.2.1

I have polyandry thank you.  :D And the issue with the cult in Texas was not the polygamy - it was ABUSE (including sexual abuse) of women and children.  Polygamists are not = to abusers.  It's like thinking "all gays molest children" Just not so.

Your question was "should polygamy be legal" Polygamy is the practice of marriage to more than one spouse simultaneously. If you don't understand what polygamy is you aren't qualified to ask the question.

oh ha ha we have to homeschool because of the "safety net". Schools are so worried about monitoring our kids behavior and political correctness that they don't spend any time teaching. My husband teaches college to all these lovely little products of the pubic school system and they turn in essays that are practically incoherent. Almost without exception his best and brightest students are homeschoolers. Abusers will mistreat their kids and it doesn't matter if they are homeschooling or shipping them off on a bus. To equate homeschooling with abuse is ignorant.

In a perfect world polygamy would also be perfect, but we have seen this monster rear its ugly head before. Any deviation from social norms can be expected to be a doorway to the bizarre and an avenue to abuse and a preying on the weak. In every instance young girls have been mated with old men. The latest case was published that the marraige was consumated in the wedding chapel, probably in front of others, and the youngest bride was age 12. It cannot be allowed, no matter how liberal as a society we become, we must prevent the inclusion of children in an obscure lifestyle behind walls where they may be harmed. There is enough child abuse that goes on without it being done on a grand scale as a cult following. There are many polygamists that have lived as families outside of compounds and, as we older folks know already, public education and the truancy laws were passed not only to assure all were educated but also to assure that all children were given the opportunity to see and be seen by others. Home schooling has now destroyed that safety net. Anyway you get my drift, right?

i have no religion...i am agnostic....when a child is under a certain age their decision making abilities are lacking as they have only been alive a handful of years....not nearly long enough to make a good solid decision....and if they know no other life than what they are allowed by the church elders to know then how can it be a well informed decision?

If they are consenting  then it isn't anyone elses business. Or does that whole freedom of religion thing only count when it's yours? (by yours I don't mean anyone in particular or the author of the poll)
